London Climate Action Week (London Climate Action Week) events centered around the Climate Innovation Forum, hosted the launch of the Climate Clock, visually expressing our time to keep global warming at 1.5 degrees. The ceremony, attended by guests such as King Charles III, London Mayor Sadiq Khan, and Climate Action founder Nick Henry, took place at Guildhall.
The Climate Clock has begun a countdown in 150 different locations across the United Kingdom, including London, as a striking reminder of the urgency to take action in the fight against the climate crisis. The clock shows that we have just over six years left to avoid exceeding the critical threshold of 1.5 degrees Celsius for global warming. If surpassed, this threshold significantly increases the risk of severe climate impacts leading to extreme weather events and major disruptions in ecosystems.
The Climate Innovation Forum brought together government, business, finance, and civil society leaders to discuss and sustain the radical collaboration, financing, and innovation necessary to fulfill the United Kingdom's climate commitments. The event highlighted the urgency of climate policies addressing all greenhouse gases and emphasized the necessity of a broad, consistent, and ongoing effort for the transition to a low-carbon economy.
The Climate Clock reminds us of how valuable time is in the fight against the climate crisis, how crucial every second is for global warming. This clock is a symbol of our commitment to a sustainable future and continuously reminds us that we must move forward with determination in this quest.
